pretty cool people

The brilliant images below are all the work of the American photographer Autumn de Wilde. See her website here. She is mainly known for her portraits and commercial work of various musicians. Love her pictures and the people she has photographed. These are my favourites:

These pics of the YEAH YEAH YEAHS performing and backstage are amazing..love that the atmosphere has been captured so completely.

Miranda July: Performance artist…writer…director... actress (the creator and star of one of my very favourite films- ‘Me, You and Everyone We Know) and basically all round amazingly talented lady.

These pictures are of Jack and Meg of The White Stripes...what fantastic, individual style they both have, and I love the last shot of the children in the audience.

me & him

Think how different it would be if you never met the one person who changed everything.

busy hands

Just a quick one to say that I've been busy working on lots of new hair decorations for my etsy shop...preview of one above! So watch this space for more images of the other new designs, which will hopefully be going on sale within the next week. Oh and I've also got my first commission (woohoo!) which is for a baby hair wreath..how very cute is that! Looking forward to getting started on it. If it goes well I'm definitely going to consider doing a childrens range as there are a lot of little flower girls and princesses in training out there who would no doubt love a pretty floral arrangement atop their head!

adventures of a long weekend

Hope you all had a great Easter break. We did a road trip up to the north of England to visit friends in Durham and then spent a few nights at my parents farm. A lot of driving was involved (mostly by Curt which was his choice as he openly admits that my driving makes him extremely nervous. Something to do with my ridiculously short attention span.)

Anyhow we had a wonderful relaxing time, highlights of the weekend included a trip to the coast, where Lila discovered the joys of sand- eating it that is! We also visited an aquaruim and yesterday little lady took her first ride on a carousel, which I think I enjoyed more than she did. Oh and she also tasted a small piece of chocolate for the first time in the form of her very own easter egg from Nanny and Grandpa (which Curt and I will be kindly helping her to eat). Needless to say, it was a big hit.

wedding bells: beautiful ideas and images

So with the big day only just under 5 months to go, I'm knee deep in all things wedding at the moment. Things are slowly getting ticked off the list...we have a brilliant band booked to play at the reception (they'll be doing mainly classic rock/funky songs- strictly no Abba or any kind of wedding cheesiness permitted! We just want music that we both really love and reflects us and that our guests will hopefully also love and which will entice them onto the dancefloor, though don't think they'll be too many problems in that department!)

I have met with the lady who is doing the bouquets so flowers are at the forefront of my mind at the moment, along with all things to do with the table decor and the decoration of the marquee where the reception will be held in the grounds of my parents farm. While researching ideas, I came across the beautiful work of Rebecca Thuss. She is a very talented lady who specialises in creative direction, wedding design and prop and set direction. How amazing is the picture above of a pathway of rose petals. Would love to use this idea as our ceremony is being held out in the garden but the unpredictable British weather could cause a problem if the wind was to pick up!

These are some of more of the gorgeous images from the portfolio on her website .

Love these floral arrangements, and the idea of using simple flower arrangements in mismatched vases of different shapes and sizes on the tables.

These images are adorable....stunning origami and composition. We are definitely having a tower of cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake.

Instead of having favours laid out for each guest, I really like the idea of having a table with jars of different cookies and sweet little paper bags where at the end of the evening guests can help themselves to a few cookies to take home. As my Dad is a dairy farmer I want him to find a way of putting the milk from his herd of cows into little mini glass bottles so we can do cookies and milk (this is more of a pipe dream though!!) Or maybe a candy buffet with beautiful old fashioned sweets in glass jars.

I 'm a big fan of beautiful vintage books and this shot is just stunning. The hand written calligrapy labels add such a nice touch. Would love to incorporate something like his into the wedding but I'm not quite sure how yet!

portobello market

We made a family trip out of our leafy south west London suburb to go to colourful and crazy Portobello Market on Saturday. The sunshine came out, along with half of the city and a large handful of tourists but despite the crowds the atmosphere was happy and I was in the mood to spend (though reined in by my meagre budget of £10!)

I don't go to the Notting Hill area very often these days (venturing into central London with a baby in tow requires a lot of patience) but I really like the vibe of Portobello. It's a cool blend of vintage and modern, bohemia and money, with an eclectic mix of people from hipsters to antique dealers. The graffiti in the photo above was at the top of a brick building on Portobello Road, right opposite these famous candy coloured terraced houses. I fell in love with these the first time I ever saw them and still harbour dreams of buying one should I win the lottery anytime soon...

So I managed to part with my budget without too much trouble and in return updated my accessory collection with these pretties. The heart shaped glasses really don't suit me at all but I love them for their pure kitsch factor! The vintage plastic rose bracelet was a bargain and was definitely calling out my name so who was I to deny it a new home :)

wonderland: the images of Tim Walker

Tim Walker is a British fashion photographer extrordinaire. You may already be familiar with his fantasy inspired, magical images but here are some of my favourites. They are simply incredible... I love everything from the colour palettes, to the choice of models to the painstakingly constructed sets and strange but beautiful assortment of props.

You can see more of Tim Walkers work here.

Oh and a gorgeous book of his images, called 'Pictures' was also published last year...how much do I want this book...!
